The painter must always seek the essence of things, always represent the essential characteristics and emotions of the person he is painting.
—Titian
My work is rooted in observation, but guided by feeling. Working primarily in oil, I create portraits of people and animals that sit somewhere between realism and interpretation—where accuracy matters, but emotional presence matters more.
Across my work, there is a consistent pull toward intimacy. Whether painting a child absorbed in their own world, a figure in quiet repose, or an animal meeting the viewer’s gaze, I am drawn to moments that feel unguarded and authentic. These are not grand narratives, but small, human ones—gestures, expressions, and postures that reveal something deeper beneath the surface.
With a background in graphic design and a Master’s in multimedia, my approach is informed by composition, balance, and a sensitivity to colour. I often use simplified or atmospheric backgrounds and expressive palettes to create mood and draw attention to the subject.
Balancing control with looseness, I work with selective detail, soft edges, and layered texture to bring a sense of life and immediacy to each piece.
Ultimately, my work is about connection: between artist and subject, subject and viewer, and the subtle emotional spaces that exist in between.
Creating art has been a lifelong practice, and my transition into full-time fine art felt like a natural continuation of that path.
