Process

After selecting and your preferred size and category, please upload the photograph you would like me to work from. If you send multiple images, I will select the one that will translate best into a painting.
Once I receive your order, I will send you a request for an Interac e-transfer (Canada) or a PayPal transfer (client covers the cost of any transfer fees incurred.)

Artistic Style & Approach

My style is a combination of loose and expressive textures with find detail realism, with areas intentionally left suggestive rather than highly detailed. This approach will be reflected in your pet’s portrait. Backgrounds are painted in a simple, impressionistic style. Sizes and Pricing

Custom oil portraits are available by commission in a range of sizes. Each piece is created from your reference photos and focuses on capturing likeness, presence, and quiet detail.

I offer a selection of set sizes and pricing. I’m also happy to discuss the possibility of larger, full-body portraits with pricing depending on size and detail. Please feel free to contact me to discuss.

Paintings are done using professional artist quality oil paint on canvas panel board. Framing is not provided.

Photograph Guidelines

Please provide a clear, high-resolution photograph with your pet in sharp focus and an unobstructed view of their face and features. Natural lighting is always helpful. I’m unable to work from blurry, low-resolution, heavily filtered, or partially obstructed images, as the quality of the reference directly affects the finished painting. If I feel a photograph is unsuitable, I will let you know and request an alternative.

Please note: one pet per painting. Separate pricing for two.

Client photo rights

By submitting a photograph, the client confirms they have permission to use the image as reference.

Payment & Commission Start

Work on your commissioned portrait will begin once full payment, including shipping, has been received. Thank you for your understanding and support.

Timing

Kindly allow 4–6 weeks from the start of the painting for completion.

Once the painting is complete, you will receive an email photograph for approval prior to dispatch. Please note that revisions are not included in the listed price, and commissioned pieces are non-returnable.

Shipping

Paintings are shipped via Canada Post with tracked delivery.
Shipping is $25 and is available within Canada and the United States only. Applicable duty fees will be added to shipping to the United States.

Charity Donation

In the case where my commission is being donated to charity, full payment including shipping is required upfront and will then be donated by me (minus the shipping cost) directly to the charity.

Cancellation / Refund

No refunds once work has begun. Cancellations are allowed up to 24 hours after purchase before painting starts. Any necessary money transfer fees will be deducted from the payment refund.

Revisions and returns

Please note that revisions are not included in the commission price, and all commissioned works are non-returnable. Very minor adjustments MAY sometimes be made at the artist’s discretion.

Damage in transit

Martha Lodge is not responsible financially or otherwise for any loss or damage to the painting once it has been shipped.

Copyright & Usage

All artwork and images on this site are the exclusive property of Martha Lodge and are protected under the Copyright Act (Canada).

The images may not be reproduced, copied, transmitted, or manipulated without the written permission of Martha Lodge. All rights reserved.

The Artist possesses all necessary rights, title, and interest in and to the Artwork, including but not limited to the copyright and all related intellectual property rights therein.

The Artist reserves the rights to use, reproduce, display, and/or distribute the Artwork for the purpose of promotion, social media and portfolio.

Ownership of the physical painting does not include the transfer of copyright. The Artist retains all rights to the image, including reproduction and usage rights. The client may not reproduce or use the artwork for commercial purposes without prior written permission from the Artist.
